Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, John Gormley, T.D. I am pleased to welcome you to the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government website. 

My Department's activities touch the lives of every citizen of the state. They range from the quality of the environment in which we live to the housing, roads, water and other services of which we avail. We also deal, in partnership with the local authorities and others, with areas as diverse as litter, elections, heritage, Met Eireann and planning. You can find information about these and a whole other range of issues on the site. 

I would also encourage you to access the Department's Strategy Statement: which identifies how we are implementing our mission to promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life through protection of the environment and heritage, to provide infrastructure, to balance regional development and to facilitate good local government.
