Boundary Committees
Mr John Gormley, TD, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, has received the report of the Limerick City Boundary Committee. Minister Gormley established the Boundary Committee in October 2007 to prepare a report in relation to the administrative boundary of Limerick City Council. The boundary committee’s report contains a review of the recommended alteration to Limerick City Council’s boundary made by Mr John Fitzgerald, i.e. a limited extension of the City Council’s boundary up to the Clare County boundary in the northern part of the city, to include Moyross, the suburb of Caherdavin, and environs. The recommended boundary alteration would have an impact on the boundaries of Limerick City Council and Limerick County Council; however, it would not have an impact on the boundary of Clare County Council.
The Boundary Committee’s report concurs with that of Mr Fitzgerald in that it also recommends a limited boundary alteration. Having received the Boundary Committee’s report the Minister intends to make an order to alter Limerick City Council’s boundary. Such an order will require the positive approval of both Houses of the Oireachtas to become effective.
