Nuisance Noise Issues Consultation Paper

There is a commitment to introduce comprehensive legislation on noise pollution within the lifetime of this Government. As part of the preparatory process  extensive public consultation was undertaken in 2008 during which 235 submissions were received from the public and key stakeholders. The main issues of concern were noise from continuously sounding intruder alarms, barking dogs and other forms of noise from neighbouring residential properties. After due consideration of these submissions the General Scheme of a Noise Nuisance Bill was prepared in this Department and approved by the Government.

The Noise Nuisance Bill is included in the Government Legislation Programme published on 16 September, 2009.  Information on the findings of the public consultation process will be made available in association with the publication of the Bill.
