Environment

A high quality environment is essential for a good quality of life and is a key component of sustainable development. The challenges to the environment include:
- Meeting international commitments on air emissions (green house gases and acidifying gases)
- Eutrophication Prevention
- Waste Management
The Department is also responsible for the maintenance of up-to-date emergency plans to minimize the harm to public health in Ireland in the event of a nuclear accident abroad.
