Development and Housing
The physical planning system seeks to facilitate and encourage development within sustainable patterns of settlement whilst fostering protection of the natural and built environment and promoting the efficient use of land and infrastructure.
Local Authorities and An Bord Pleanala directly operate the system. The Department's primary role is to provide the essential legislative framework and policy guidance.
In relation to housing supply, the Department and local authorities optomise conditions for increasing housing supply and particularly the supply of social and affordable housing.
